PAST ACTIONS

Wake Up, Hollywood!

On the eve of the 2020 Oscar Awards, we held a march and synchronized die-in formation at the Hollywood Sign to demand that Hollywood Wake Up, Tell The Truth about the climate crisis and recognize that Hollywood sits on stolen Indigenous land, and Act Now to cut its emissions. We had attendees from the Sony Entertainment Sustainability Department and many other high-level entertainment executives. At the Oscars, the following day, Taika Waititi acknowledged the Indigenous land that Hollywood sits on.

September Rebellion/Paint the Street

As part of our first COVID-era action, we took a stand against environmental and racial injustice through a month-long campaign titled September Rebellion. Participants took to the streets and chalked, flyered, and stickered demanding action against Environmental Racism.

Reparations, Preservation, HydratioN

In recognition of the decades-long injustices at the hands of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, we conducted our first in-person action since COVID began. We demanded the DWP restore first-users water rights to the Indigenous Nüümü of Owens Valley, sustainably capture Los Angelenos’ water, and build an extensive amount of hydration stations throughout the city for our lower-income and unhoused neighbors. Immediately afterwards our action, we were invited to a meeting, at request, with the Head of Water at the LADWP. We continue to be in discussion with the DWP.

XRYLA Takes the GrammyS

Similarly to the Film Industry, the Music Industry is highly unsustainable. During the Grammy Awards, we fired a light projector onto the side of the Staples Center (where the Grammys were being held) demanding climate action.
